From the very first day it launched in the 1960s, the Ford Bronco has held a special place in the hearts of Americans. For more than 30 years, it was a symbol of freedom, fun and, outdoor adventure – even on city streets. And now, after a few years away, popular demand has brought about the return of a legend. The 2020 Ford Bronco is coming soon, and here is everything we know about it so far, including some really fun rumors!

From the limited photos available and the standard spy tactics of some of the heavyweight automotive magazines and blogs, the 2020 Bronco looks to carry on the tough, rugged exterior of the previous generations. Ford has said the new Bronco will be a real, no-compromise, body-on-frame 4×4 built to take on some of the toughest terrains. It will come with features like solid front and rear axles, and an “Air Roof” – the removable roof, convertible option that Bronco lovers might just value most. Car spies have said the feature will consist of six modular roof panels that can be added and removed manually, and stored in the vehicle when they aren’t being used.

However, Ford has made huge leaps and bounds in quality, safety and luxury options since the last Bronco rolled off the line in 1996. Drivers can count on the advanced technology available across the Ford lineup to be included with the 2020 Bronco – along with a few surprises of its own.

Early estimates mark out the Bronco to be a mid-size SUV, clocking in a bit under 200 inches in length. That means it has the size to carry the cargo you need and the agility to get that cargo to some pretty inhospitable places.

The engine, platform, and comparable model is thought to be the newly revived Ford Ranger pickup truck. Similar to the Ranger, the 2020 Ford Bronco is expected to be powered by a range of turbo-charged four- and six-cylinder engines mated to the Ford 10-speed automatic transmission. Rumors leaking out of dealer meetings have also hinted that, in addition to a Ranger-based Bronco, Ford will build a smaller model that is thought to be based on the Ford Escape. This new SUV has been dubbed the “Baby Bronco.”

As for trim levels, Ford has never been short of options for their flagship vehicles. So, it is basically a lock that the 2020 Bronco will be available with a wide range of features from the base Bronco, through the XLT, Limited, and Platinum models. Then, there is a widely reported (and incredibly appealing) potential Bronco Raptor off-road trim level. We have yet to see whether this will be in either the two- or four-door model that is expected.

According to blogs, magazines, and other less-reputable corners of the internet, anonymous sources with alleged ties to Ford have given a rough timeline. The first to debut should be the Baby Bronco in January 2020, with the larger model set to debut six months later and production beginning in January 2021. Ever since the first announcement at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, Bronco lovers both young and old have been clamoring for the release of this redesigned and relaunched classic. Experts believe that as early as next year, they just might get their wish.
