The Ford Explorer is the SUV that started it all and it continues to lead the way with the completely redesigned 2020 Ford Explorer. From the exterior to the interior and even under the hood, this Explorer features new designs, technology, power, capabilities, and so much more.

What’s New?

Everything.

Ford wanted their newest Explorer to stand out in more ways than one. The total redesign of the 2020 Ford Explorer included replacing the front-drive platform most SUVs use with a rear-wheel-drive platform, replacing the Sport with the ST, adding a hybrid version, offering a variety of engines to choose from, and featuring upgrades in technology and safety.

Let’s take a closer look at what all we have to look forward to.

Seating and Storage

The 2020 Explorer is not only better, but it’s bigger. This means more room for your passengers and more space for your cargo.

Remember that rear-wheel drive platform we mentioned earlier? With this design, Ford was able to provide 18.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and 87 cubic feet behind the first row when maximum storage capabilities are needed.

When you need more storage space and have fewer passengers, you can adjust the 50/50 fold-flat third-row and second-row seats in the new Ford Explorer to accommodate your seating and storage needs.

With a larger design, each row features more head and leg room, so passengers are comfortable no matter where they are sitting. Available second-row E-Z Entry captain’s chairs, along with the increased space in the third row, takes away the hassle of using the back row.

Technology

The 2020 Ford Explorer interior features a cabin that was designed for all of you tech lovers out there.

Keeping your passengers entertained can make all the difference when traveling long distances. The 4G LTE Wi-Fi can connect up to 10 devices to help keep passengers entertained and the available nine different power points (including USBs and type-C) keep devices charged. A wireless charging pad is also available for maximum charging convenience.

Technology designed in mind for the driver includes a rotary gear shift dial that makes changing gears smoother, a terrain management system that adapts to road conditions at the twist of a knob, and an available 10.1-inch portrait touchscreen that features zoom and swipe capabilities (available on the ST and Platinum trim levels).

A customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument panel cluster with productivity screen comes standard on the Platinum and ST models but is also available on other trim levels.

Safety

Each Explorer comes equipped with Ford Co-Pilot 360, which contains a suite of safety features. These features include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Forward-Collision Warning, Blind-Spot Warning, Cross-Traffic Alert, and Lane-Keeping Assist.

A new feature to be added to the 2020 Explorer includes a rear-view camera with a built-in lens washer.

With Ford’s standard and available safety and driving assist technology, you will have the added security you and your family need when out on the road.

Power and Performance

The 2020 Ford Explorer will offer four different engines to choose from and will come standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost that increases the 280 horsepower featured on the 2019 Explorer to 300 while maintaining the same torque rating of 310 lb-ft. The increase in power takes the towing capabilities from a maximum towing capacity of 3000 pounds to 5300 pounds. That’s an upgrade we won’t say no to.

For a higher level option, drivers can choose a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine that will boost the power to 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes standard with all-wheel drive.

Still not enough? The new Ford Explorer ST features an enhanced 3.0-liter turbo V6 that boasts 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.

Wanting something a little more fuel efficient? With the new Explorer Hybrid, the naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6 paired with an electric motor is capable of 318 horsepower and a towing capacity of 5000 pounds (when equipped with Class III Trailer Tow Package). That’s a higher horsepower than the standard engine and only a 300-pound difference in towing capabilities.

This year’s Explorer will feature five trim levels: base, XLT, Limited, ST, and Platinum. Drivers will also be able to choose from nine exterior colors to customize their Explorer to fit their style.

The 2020 Ford Explorer price will start at $33,860 with the base Explorer and will increase with each trim level for a maximum starting price of $59,345 for the Platinum Explorer.

This SUV was redesigned with you and your family’s needs and wants in mind.

We are excited to add the 2020 Ford Explorer to our inventory this Summer at Jimmy Granger Ford of Stonewall. Stay tuned for an official release date!
